President's Message from Paul Servis |
As your new president, I will continue the work of promoting the mission of NNAS. We are very fortunate to have an abundance of talented members and even more fortunate that they are hard and willing workers. The impact that the NNAS has on our community is many faceted. We provide educational programs to adults and children. (Bird walks, nature walks, evening programs and exhibits at the farm markets as example.) At present we are providing scholarships to teachers from our community so that they can attend the Teachers on the Bay program during the summer. This year we are helping to fund a study of eagles that is being conducted in our community by a graduate student from William and Mary. The boardwalk at Hickory Hollow is in its final stages of completion for our community to enjoy. We have excellent programs in membership, publicity, hospitality, and a professionally done newsletter. Our blue birdhouses are seen all over the Neck and make their way out of the community and the state. We are a sponsor of the Ground Water Festival providing sixth graders from Northumberland and Lancaster Counties with a full day of hands-on science activities at Camp Kittamaqund in Burgess. These are a few of the things that we of NNAS do. Dedicated, hard working members giving many hours of time, and effort to NNAS and the community produce these accomplishments. I would like all of the members of NNAS to have the opportunity to participate. Working on projects with the people from NNAS is a joy! I know that we have many individuals that would like to become a part of one or more of our projects. All you need to do is call a committee chairman or a board member and get started. |
