A male Painted
Bunting (photo at right) was seen at a bird feeder on the Windmill Point
Road in White Stone on Wednesday, December 27, 2000. It was confirmed
by Jim Wagner and Ellis Squires the following day, and has been seen by
other birders since. As this bird normally summers only on the coastal
plain of North Carolina, it is extremely north of where it would be expected
to be in the Winter.
