King William Reservoir (off the Mattaponi River)

The public comment period for the King William Reservoir has ended. The Northern Neck Audubon did express their concerns. Colonel Allen B. Carroll, head of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Norfolk District, is now considering, his third and final decision, on whether to grant Newport News a permit to build a reservoir on Cohoke Creek off the
Mattaponi. The reservoir would divert up to 75 million gallons of fresh water per day from the Mattaponi River.
As water is removed from the Mattaponi the tidal salt water from the Chesapeake Bay coming up the York River will push further up the Mattaponi which could cause harm to the shad spawning grounds. For thousands of years the Mattaponi Indians have fished the river and recently made their living from Shad fishing.

Arctic Wildlife Refuge

We are systematically destroying our wild lands when there are usually alternatives that would be far healthier for the environment and less costly to pursue. We will do irreparable damage to the Arctic Wildlife Refuge for only 180 days worth of oil. Please consider writing, phoning or faxing the White House and/or your Senator with your concerns. Only by a concerted effort on the part of each of us will something be done to help the environment and our natural lands that are absolutely essential to this planets health.
