A Close Call

A small drama played out at a local hummingbird feeder recently. It's owner noticed a praying mantis hanging around her feeder and thought it might be after the bees and wasps that were attracted to the sugar nectar. However, when the mantis grabbed a young hummingbird she rushed to the tiny bird's aid. The bird had been grabbed by the breast and was about to become the mantis's dinner when she intervened and hastily separated the two, placing the insect far away from the feeder, and the small bird on a cloth, where it soon recovered and went on with its second chance at its hummingbird's life
