Key Strategic Directions Create opportunities for birders of all abilities to learn about birds and their habitats by sponsoring at least nine bird walks per year. Introduce people to birding by conducting one beginning birding class per year. Create opportunities for the interested public to learn about wildlife habitats by sponsoring at least six nature walks per year . Educate youth about wildlife and conservation stewardship by providing Audubon Adventures for at least one hundred and twenty-five classrooms. Educate youth about wildlife and conservation stewardship by providing hands-on workshops with students. Educate teachers about wildlife and conservation stewardship by providing two/ three scholarships for the Teachers On The Bay Program. Encourage knowledge of natural systems and birds by scheduling nine membership meetings including a speaker with particular knowledge about birding, research concerning wildlife, or conservation issues. Provide information to and influence local, state, and federal representatives
on issues concerning wildlife and conservation stewardship. Participation in local festivals and fairs. Provide articles for local newspapers. Provide seasonal educational flyers. Provide speakers for civic organizations as requested. Maintain NNAS website.
Maintain Hickory Hollow Preserve as a public showcase for wildlife preservation and conservation ethics. Facilitate and promote the creation of conservation easements by private landowners. Provide a vehicle for the donation of private land for the preservation of natural areas. Cooperate with other agencies, such as The Nature Conservancy, Trust for Public Land, and state agencies, in purchasing property for natural area preserves. Promote the study of natural systems Contribute data on bird populations by participating in "The Christmas
Bird Count", "The Great Backyard Bird Count", "The Breeding Bird Survey" and
"The Bald Eagle Survey". Cooperate and support other organizations that share NNAS's purpose. Participate in Virginia Audubon and support legislative initiatives. Support the protection of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and its natural resources. Share information with and contribute money to other like-minded organizations.
Receive $6000.00 per year for manufacturing and selling nesting bird boxes. Receive funds per year in membership fees from new chapter-generated members. Secure funds in donations from members to support chapter initiatives. Receive funds from outreach activities.
