Dameron Marsh Natural Area Preserve

Dameron Marsh Natural Area Preserve in Northumberland County was dedicated in May and under the Department of Conservation & Recreation guided walks were offered during the month.. The walks were such a success that they will be continued starting in September.

The guided walks will be held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from September through November and then start again in March through May. (The bugs are ferocious during the summer.) Walks start at 10:00 AM and usually last 2 hours or more.

This 316 acre preserve harbors exquisite examples of bayside habitats and natural communities. Included are high saltmarsh, bayside pine-hardwood forest, tidal mud flats and a high-energy beach. It is one of the most significant marshes in the bay for shorebirds and marsh-nesting birds, as well as supporting a population of northeastern beach tiger beetle. Thanks to the Department of Conservation and Recreation and volunteers a board walk has been installed leading to a wildlife observation platform.
