The Northern Neck Audubon Society has a strong commitment to educating children about environmental stewardship as well as to helping them to become aware of nature’s beauty and the life-long recreational aspects of birding and observing wildlife.

Soon, we will be sending out an invitation to all Northern and Middle Neck teachers to receive the highly acclaimed Audubon Adventures Newspaper.

Published four times per year, each edition comes chocked full of conservation success articles and do-it-yourself conservation ideas to give students exciting and practical opportunities to relate the theme of each newspaper to their own neighborhood. The teacher’s manual comes complete with background information on each newspaper topic, detailed lesson plans, tips for outdoor study, hand-on activities, assessment questions and answer keys, research material, duplicating masters, a glossary, and related resources including websites.

In addition, each participating teacher receives all the benefits of Audubon membership: a one-year subscription to Audubon magazine, affiliation with the local chapter (us!), and invitations to local field trips and to summer ecology workshops programs for educators.

If you are a teacher who has benefited from the Audubon Adventures program, or if you know teachers in the area from having volunteered in a local school, please spread the good word. The invitation to participate in the program will be sent out to teachers in August, and teachers will receive the first installment of Audubon Adventures and the accompanying kit in early fall.
